Summer Lunch Program

The LunchBox is on a mission to end summer hunger by increasing access to fresh, delicious, and nutritious lunches.

Many children rely on school lunches as their only meal of the day - so what happens in the summer?

We bring the food to them

Summer 2023:

This summer we have some exciting news - we have a new truck!

For the duration of the summer we will be delivering lunches:

  • 12pm-2pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays

  • We currently deliver lunches to homes within the Hilltop neighborhood (between Sullivant Ave. and Broad St.)

We love our volunteers!

If you would like to help cook, package, and/or prepare food please let us know.

If you would like to volunteer, please send us a message:

Hunger in Ohio

You may have heard 1 in 6 kids in America faces hunger, but did you know in Ohio, specifically in some neighborhoods in Columbus is can be as high as 1 in 3 children?

Ohio is one of the worst states in the nation when it comes to hunger in the summer.  Of those kids who rely on school lunches, only 10% of them have access summer feeding programs.

  • That means of the almost 600,000 kids who were food insecure in 2018, over 500,000 of them potentially went without lunches last summer.

  • That’s enough hungry kids to fill the horseshoe over 5 times.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has”
